Dixon Park was represented by a strong team of 16 Competitors at this years 2010 NSW Open Surf Life saving Championships.

The team returned with 2 State medals, and a very creditable 37th position overall from 144 Clubs in NSW and a top 4 finish from the 13 clubs within the Hunter Branch.

Saturday

On Saturday morning Tia Brady opened the account with a Bronze Medal in the Open Women’s 2km Beach Run. Tia chose to compete up in the Open Women’s event winning Dixon Parks first ever Open Women’s individual State medal in the clubs 78 year history.

Sam Tapp and Ryan Flannery battled for waves in the Open Men’s Board Riding event. Waves were scarce and with 5 man heats waves were very difficult to secure in the 15 minutes heats. Both surfed very well and represented the club commendably.

The U17 Male Beach Relay team of  Jack Steel, Dylan Nilsson, Mitchell Moylan and Mathew Edwards easily progressed to Sundays Final with a second place in their heat.

Tia backed up later in the day to also earn a spot in Sundays finals by working her way through the heats and semi’s in U19 Female Beach Flags.

Our Boat crews both had great days on Saturday with faultless rowing to book places in Sundays Finals also. Both crews of Matthew Nicholas, Matthew Criss , Keith Hunter and Kale Fogg (Men’s Open) as well as  Murray Dyson, Nathaniel Dyson, Timothy Smith, Callum Hayden (U19 Male) were both swept by Trevor Dyson.

Great days results with a Bronze medal and 4 finalists on the first day for our club.

Sunday

First up on Sunday was our U17 Male Beach relay team who got off to great start and were sitting in second place leading up to the final change only to lose touch with the baton with one leg remaining. The boys still managed to finish in 6th position earning the club a value point.

Tia was next to fly the Dicko colours in the U19 Female Beach Flags Final and did the club proud by picking up her second State medal of the Championships when she finished with the Silver.

Both boat crews progressed through to the finals and coincidentally finished in exactly the same position overall. Both teams finished in 5th place each picking up 2 points for Dixon Park. The future of Boats at the club looks bright with these two representing Dixon Park.

Overall the clubs remarkable result from a mere 16 competitors and the fact that 9 of those are either U17’s or U19’s will hopefully inspire more of our younger members to come on board and represent the club at next years Titles.
