The club will shortly commence the next Bronze Medallion course. Because of the high numbers of people wishing to Attend the course and limits on resources if you are not in attendance at the Induction night and pay the fees set our below you will not be accepted into the course.

In order to commence the course you must be a member of the club and be prepared to attend Patrol’s as rostered.  You will not be provided with your medallion or certificate until you have completed three rostered (Sunday) Patrol’s. As a member of the club it is expected that in addition you will complete all of your rostered Patrol’s for the year.  In order to maintain your Bronze Medallion you will need to attend and complete a proficiency each year. Those of you who have completed the SRC course are expected to be fulfilling their existing Patrol commitments.

It is a pre requisite to the course that you complete a timed pool swim.  You will need to complete a 400 metre pool swim in 9 minutes-this must be continuous swimming.  If you are not already in training you need to be, unless you are a strong regular swimmer you will not be able to complete this task without regular training.

As part of the training you will also be asked to perform a run-swim-run (200m run-200m surf swim-200m run).  There will also be surf rescue board rescues, tube rescues, carries, resuscitation, signals, first aid and other elements which you will learn and then be assessed.

It is possible, because of the size of the squad, that the squad will be split into at least two for the assessment.  No one will be put up for assessment unless the trainers consider that they are ready and competent.

The course will be conducted over a series of Tuesday evening theory lessons (although in the good weather there may be some water activity on some Tuesdays) from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and a series of wet sessions to be conducted on Sunday mornings at 8.00am.  The length of the course will depend upon the ability of the candidates, progress, weather and surf conditions but is likely to go for 8 to 10 weeks approximately.

The Programme is as follows:

  1. Sunday 31st January, 2010 at 8.30am at Dixon Park Surf Club:  Attend compulsory Induction-at the induction you will be required to join the club at a cost of $45.00 (if you have not already done so) and pay an additional fee of $30.00 to cover course materials and incidentals.  You will then be provided with your course materials and asked to complete a course enrolment and information sheet.  Introductions will also be made and you will be given an overview of the course and a tour of the clubhouse and facilities.  You must attend this induction and pay both fees.   Approximately 1 hour.
  2. Tuesday 2nd February. 2010 at 6.30pm at Dixon Park Surf Club: Theory lessons commence. 2 hours
  3. Sunday 7th February, 2010 at 8.00am at Merewether Baths: Timed Pool swim and commencement of wet sessions at Dixon Park beach.

Please note that for wet sessions ladies may wear one or two piece swimmers, men may wear Speedo style swimmers and both may wear surf rescue shorts and rash shirts (recommended for all).  No other board shorts or the like may be worn.  It is also permissible to wear a wet suit but not for the timed swim or the assessment.

In the event that you have special needs please contact me either prior to the induction or privately after the meeting to discuss how we can meet those needs.

You must be able to attend the induction and attend the majority of wet and dry sessions.
